Our top picks close to this hotel

For romance

Parque del Buen Retiro is filled with sweet smelling, sultry blooms and cool grass which is perfect for kicking off your shoes and stretching out with a cold bottle of wine and chilling under the shade of a tree.  An afternoon spent in the tranquil and lush surrounding of this garden will make you feel as if you have just put the world on hold for a while.

For families

The Teleferico Madrid is a fabulous, family friendly cable car which takes you on a 2.5 mile journey across the city, giving you some of the best city views you will see.

For culture

The Museo del Prado is Spain’s main national art gallery and should feature on all itineraries. With an art collection spanning the 12th – 19th centuries including permanent and temporary exhibitions, Spain’s premier art collection is a definite ‘to do’ when in this majestic city.

For shopping

The weekly and famous El Rastro Sunday market is probably one of the best street markets in the world; so much so, it is well worth battling your way through the crowds to elbow your way to the best bargains.  Bank on at least 3 hours to get around it all and who knows – you may unearth a treasure or two in the process.

For eating out

El Sobrino de Botin is over 300 years old – and counting!  This bastion of Spanish tradition is crumbling around the edges but, oh boy, what they do not know about a great suckling pig roast is not worth knowing.

For nightlife

Bar El 2 De is mellow by day, but by night this Vermouth fuelled hangout is rowdy and raucous.  The traditionally tiled walls are tobacco stained and hung with mirrors giving this bar a cool atmosphere.  Make sure you turn up early at weekends when it is packed to the brim with locals and tourists alike.
